Notable events
His first Halloween! We did some trick or treating at the mall earlier on in the day, so he stayed nice and warm and didn’t have to mess up his sleep schedule to participate in the fun 🤣 He was dressed as a Candyland player, while his sisters were both girls on the board (Princess Lolly and Queen Frostine).
His first Thanksgiving. He liked everything we gave him, and we even broke the rules and gave him a little pumpkin pie, which he REALLY liked.
We also gave him a tiny taste of soft-serve ice cream this month and he was a fan of that! 🤣
Tricks/Milestones
He’s now an expert sitter.
He’s also working on moving in and out of sitting from his belly. He got himself to sitting after he was put down for a nap one day, and looked very proud of himself; then he couldn’t seem to get back to his belly, so he wound up falling asleep folded in half instead 🤣
He stopped doing his hands and knees so much, so he didn’t start crawling yet like I thought he would. He has recently started getting on his hands and knees again, and he’s been like, planking and sort of launching himself (using his legs) forward, aka into a face plant 🤣
He’s been saying “dada” a lot more and has now said “mama” a few times!
After too long of spoon-feeding him (I hate the mess of self-feeding 🙈) I’m now letting him self-feed. And it is, indeed, a mess 😅
He sort of signs “more.”
For a few days he was starting to clap, but I haven’t seen him do it for a few days now.
Favorite things
He loves being thrown in the air. It always gets him smiling and laughing!
I love our morning nursing session because it’s long and quiet and cozy (the girls aren’t up yet).
Random tidbits
He’s obsessed with peanut butter. For a while there, I just fed him peanut butter by the spoonful when I didn’t have other things. Now I just put it on anything it makes sense with (toast, bananas).
Not sure if I’ve ever written this, but he is always sucking on the neck of his clothing and sleep sacks. As a result, they’re ALL discolored and disgusting looking. What can ya do 🤷🏼♀️ He sort of uses this to self-soothe right before he falls asleep.
TWICE I have gone to nurse him after a nap, only to have him refuse. The reason? Half a blueberry stuck up in the roof of his mouth. AKA, he slept a whole nap with food in his mouth!! 😱😱😱 This was earlier on in the month, though; he’s getting much better at navigating food!
Sleep
When it comes to sleep, this month hasn’t been TOO bad, but once again, his sleep is just not as consistent as Holly’s was, and that’s hard! We started the month on 3 naps, then I was flip flopping with 2 and 3 naps, and now I’ve finally committed to just two naps, which is finally going well. I also bit the bullet with nightweaning, so now he sleeps through the night! Mostly 🤪 Here are more details:
Wake him at 6:30am. Except what really happens almost every day is that he wakes around 5:45am. I do not get him out of bed until 6:30am.
Goes down for nap 1 at 8:45/9am (depending on morning wakeup time), I wake him at 10:15am. Goes down for nap 2 at 1:15pm (unless he has a short first nap, then he usually goes down at 1pm), he’s finally been taking a longer nap here!! Usually wakes around 3pm, but sometimes sleeps 2+ hours! He almost always cries for 10 seconds after I lay him down, but then calms down and usually falls asleep in 5-10 minutes. His waketimes work out to be basically 2.5 / 3 / 3.5.
Sometimes he takes a short nap (either one), but he’s been doing better since I committed to the aforementioned (longer) WTs.
The last couple nights, he has cried a pretty solid 15 minutes or so after I laid him down for bed before falling asleep. Not sure what’s up with that.
Like I said, he often wakes in the early morning. Sometimes it’s early enough that he’ll fall back asleep (be awake 4:30-5am-ish), sometimes it’s not (awake around 5:30/45am, stays awake til I get him up). Usually he’s pretty content during these wakeful times.
No nightfeeds anymore, hallelujah! It started with a night where he woke too early for a nightfeed, so I left him to fall back asleep. Once he did, he didn’t wake again until 6am, so I knew he could go the whole night without a feed (I had been thinking he could, but was hesitant to make him — I wanted him to just drop the feed naturally). This was about 3 weeks ago.
Night weaning was going on at the same time as the 3-2 flip-flopping with his naps. I didn’t want to do both at the same time but that’s just what happened. Now as I mentioned, his naps are mostly good, but we’re still struggling with early morning wakes. This kid is so SLEEP SENSITIVE and I can’t seem to get him on a schedule for more than two days where everything works perfectly 😅😭
